The Turkey Day Dash is excited to present the Zachary “Zack” Zernik Memorial Scholarship. Awarded in conjunction with our annual Thanksgiving run/walk, the prize will go to two high school students who demonstrate an interest in community service, environmental stewardship, music and/or athletics. Winners will be announced on the day of the race (November 28, 2024) and receive a $500 award to put toward their education at a college or trade school.
The scholarship is named for Zack Zernik, a Thousand Oaks native and lifelong Dasher who passed away in 2023 at the age of 22. Zack was passionate about everything he did, whether it was wrestling, volleyball, distance running, saxophone, Scouting or woodwork. He sought to make the most of every moment–and encouraged others to do the same.
Applicants should be individuals of strong character with a wide range of interests, particularly related to fitness and/or the outdoors. As an Eagle Scout and avid hiker/climber, Zack loved the natural world and everything in it. Applicants should be involved in at least two extracurricular activities and have some record of community service, whether through a sports team, school club or nonprofit organization.
